In 2004 the States of Jersey established the Jersey Butterfly monitoring scheme (JBMS) as part of its commitment to environmental monitoring.
Members of the public were recruited to count butterflies at 38 locations across the island. During the first 10 years of the JBMS these volunteers walked over 3,600 miles and counted exactly 122,279 butterflies.
This book unveils the results of the JBMS's first ten years of monitoring. The butterfly records are analysed and combined with habitat data, historical records and other information to offer an insight into the diversity, abundance and status of all Jersey's butterfly species.
